Full time contract consultant on development of a Vision Screening device for use on pre-school children. The project was funded by a Phase 2 SBIR grant from the National Institute of Health.
The technology included the use of wavefront sensing, lasers and low-light-level cameras.
The primary facility for the development of the product was the Lefler Design, inc lab, in my home.
03/02 - 01/03 Consultant - BioMed Research, Inc. Lutz, FL
Full time contract consultant from 3/02 thru 11/02.
The primary facility for product development on this unit was my home.
BioMed Research, Inc. has developed an External Counter Pulsation Unit, called the CPCA2000, for the treatment of heart conditions. This Class 3 medical device has been approved for manufacture through the FDA 510(k) process.
A team of consultants, working through BioMed Research, Inc., took over development of a troubled piece of medical equipment. As the only full-time member of the team, the tasks included:
o Identifying trouble areas and suggesting redesign options;
o Responsible for implementing the design changes;
o Coordinated the effort among the consulting group;
o Purchased the parts;
o Produced the documentation package, and most of the procedures required for the FDA 510(k) submission - which was approved on the first pass. The task included "as-built" documentation.
o Accompanied the unit to the independent testing facility during the 3 week immunity/emissions/electrical safety tests. Made necessary modifications and provided required documentation so that the unit passed all tests for a Class 3 medical device.
08/00 - 02/01 Consultant - Applied Modern Technologies / Wavetec Vision Systems Los Angeles, CA
Part time consulting began in 08/00 and has continued to the present time.
Wavetec is developing advanced wavefront technologies for vision screening, customized lenses and refractive surgery. Tasks have included engineering support services as well as system testing and product development.
